BUS

What is computer bus? What are the types of a computer buses?

System bus or Buses:

Data is normally transferred between main storage and the processor along a device called a bus which is effectively a means of sending multiple bits of data in parallel. This also called the system bus. For example, all the bits of a word may be transferred in parallel in a single operation.

The micro computer has three local buses. These are
  • Address bus;
  • Data bus;
  • Control bus.
                       These three makes the system bus.

Address bus:
It is unidirectional, information flows over it only in one direction, from the CPU to the memory or I/O devices.
Data bus:
It is bidirectional and data can flow to and from the CPU through it.
Control bus:
It consists of a set of signals that is used to synchronize the activities of separate microcomputer elements.
